The latest models offer 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI diesel, which is a clean quite engine. But it is the 140bhp 2-litre TDI, which has been tested and gives a top speed of 127mph in the Audi 3.

Running costs

The star is the 1.6-litre TDI offering average economy of 65.7mpg with emissions of 114g/km. The brake energy recuperation technologies as well as the efficiency of the model are its strengths. The 1.2-litre TFSI is found to be the best petrol that manages to be both clean and economical at 132g/km.

Oh joy of joys, as Audis amazing 204ps TDI comes with standard Quattro and 8 speed automatic. This new 7 seater has a 0-60 time of around 9.1 second and has a fuel economy of 39.2mpg with 189g/km of C02.
