Today, we have arose to a bevvy of news regarding the new Mercedes SL (2013 model). The main detail we noticed is that this new Mercedes is made almost completely from aluminium, making the car 308 lbs lighter than the previous model. Aluminium vehicles also have a much more sporty feel due to the light weight.
Both iterations of the new model come with the Agility Control Suspension although there is an option to upgrade to the Active Body Control System. This is in conjunction with an electromechanical power steering system which makes it easier for the driver to perfom maneuvers at low speeds and makes the feeling heavier at high speeds.
In the E.U., The new SL will have two petol engines and a 7 speed automatic gearbox.
One is the 3.5 litre v6 with 302Hp and 274 ft.lb oftorque, which is 0.3 seconds faster than the old model. This engine also does a respectable 34.6mpg.
The 4.6 litre V8 engine is the beast of the bunch, launching the car to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
Technology weighs the car down from its basic weight, as the new SL has the driver drowsiness detection system, adaptive brakes as standard.
